Head of Security

Our client, a profitable, fully remote fintech payments platform that moves billions of dollars a year, is making its first dedicated security hire. As Head of Security you will own the entire security posture, building on an existing foundation of bug bounty, penetration tests, automated code scanning and phishing simulations. This is a player-coach role reporting to the VP of Engineering, with the mandate and budget to build a team.

Base salary USD 250,000 to 330,000 plus meaningful equity. Fully remote, anywhere in the Americas.

• Own the security posture end to end, partnering with engineering on production infrastructure and code security.
• Assess gaps, prioritize them and tackle the highest-leverage ones first.
• Build incident response as a core capability so any incident is small, contained and well-handled.
• Expand coverage across access and identity, security operations and monitoring, vendor security, employee security and policy.
• Lead AI security: manage the risk of heavy AI tool use while enabling it.
• Drive security as a cultural shift, introducing controls incrementally and working with teams.
• Define when and how to grow the security function, and hire the team.

• Hands-on security experience at a company that scaled, ideally as an early security hire.
• Deep experience in at least one core domain (product and production security, security operations, or identity and policy) with range across the others.
• An engineer's mindset: able to read the codebase and understand cloud infrastructure.
• Judgment over checklists: able to explain real risk and hold a firm line where it matters.
• Strong influence skills; brings teams along rather than just saying no.

• Experience building or co-building a small security team.
• Fintech, payments or other regulated-industry experience.
